Reading your balances
Green, red, and why a friend shows one number instead of five.
The colour code
Green — They owe you. Money coming toward you.
Red — You owe them. Money going away from you.
Grey / zero — Settled. Nothing outstanding.
Why it's one number and not five
Every expense you share with a person is netted off against every other one, in the same currency. Three dinners where they owed you and one cab where you owed them become a single figure — because you're going to settle it with one payment, not four.
Where to look
- Home — the headline: total owed to you and total you owe.
- Friends — one row per person, with their net balance.
- Tap any friend — every expense you've shared, and the running balance.
- Balance breakdown — the per-currency detail, when more than one currency is involved.
⭐The home total and the friend list can look different
If you hold balances in several currencies, the home screen groups them per currency rather than inventing a converted total. Open Balance breakdown to see exactly which currency each part is in.
Balances are always calculated fresh from the expenses themselves — there is no stored “balance” number that can go stale. If an expense is edited or deleted, everyone's balance updates in the same moment.
